Sintra Village
The first eye-opener: a traditional family wine shop and yet much more than that, since they also own vineyards and are fully-fledged producers. Wine expertise at its most. Regional wines and pairings with lively narration and native advice. The right liquids for the right solids. Visit the beautiful and historic town of Sintra, a UNESCO world heritage site. Discover the picturesque streets, the Sintra National Palace, the fountains, the churches, chapels, and shrines; and, naturally, the local pastry: queijadas and travesseiros.
Colares, the most unique appelation in the world
The cooperative winery at Colares (Adega Regional de Colares) was founded in 1931. It congregates today more than 50% of the total production, with an important social role in the region. Its beautiful building dates back to the late 19th century, with an imposing interior housing wooden barrels, casks and vats totaling more than 1 million liters capacity. It is the maturing and aging place “par excellence” for the wines of this appellation.
Azenhas do Mar
Next, visit Azenhas do Mar, a coastal village in the municipality of Sintra with a very picturesque landscape. Next, make the short drive to Praia da Maçãs, a well-known beach with golden sand and clear water. Locals typically visit to spend time at the ocean as well as the near-by saltwater swimming pool.
Cabo da Roca
Next, discover the most westerly point of continental Europe. From the cliff tops, enjoy the fantastic view of the beaches and the sea. From the road near the coast, you can gaze at the beaches and the beautiful towns of Estoril and Cascais.
Guincho Beach
On the way back, we will have the chance to enjoy this unique beach with its famous dunes. A real sanctuary for surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Cascais
We can’t leave without visiting the charming town of Cascais. This former fishing village used to be a royal getaway. Nowadays it still is one of the most attractive destinations for the Portuguese and foreign elite thanks to all that it has to offer: boutiques, restaurants, hotels, beaches and much more.
